Title: Cosmic Radiation Research Group, Balloon with Airplane
Caption: Three ropes in the middle. One on each end. Balloon experiment at the University of Chicago to explore giant cosmic ray showers in the atmosphere. Counters suspended are about 30 feet apart, and there are three on either wing. Electrical power unit and photographer in the fuselage. While this photo probably dates from after Fermi's death, he did participate in balloon based experiments to measure cosmic rays in the atmosphere. There is an anecdote about one of these experiments in a letter published in the University of Chicago Magazine.
